TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS I FROM: William Walker, M.D. , Health Services Director By: Ginger Marieiro, Contracts Administrator .f- Contra Costa DATE: July 9-, 1997 County SUBJECT: Acceptance of Contribution from the City of Richmond SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I . RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept $200, 000 from the City of Richmond for the purchase of a new mobile clinic for the West County Mobile Clinic Project and a small patient transportation van for the Center for Health. II . FINANCIAL IMPACT: Acceptance of this specially designated contribution from the City of Richmond (via Chevron Corporation) will result in $200, 000 to support the activities of the Department ' s West County Mobile Clinic Project . No County funds are required. III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND: The West County Mobile Clinic Project began operation in November 1995, and will continue as an ongoing project of the Department ' s Public Health Division to increase access to health services for un- and under-insured residents of West County. This is a collaborative project of the Health Services Department, Kaiser Permanente, and Brookside Hospital (now Tenet Corporation) , and is currently funded by $200, 000 in trust funds from the General Chemical Corporation and $7, 000 from Kaiser Permanante . Brookside Hospital contributed their converted recreational vehicle for use as a mobile clinic and pays for registration, license, and insurance for the vehicle. State immunization subvention funding supports RN staff time and other staff and operational costs are supported by the General: Chemical Trust funds . The Kaiser grant pays for pharmaceutical and laboratory supplies for the mobile clinic . Acceptance of these funds will allow the Department to obtain a new, state-of-the-art mobile health clinic for the West County Mobile Clinic Project, as well as a patient transportation van for the Center for Health. The current vehicle used for mobile clinic services is aging rapidly, and requires frequent maintenance which interrupts clinic operations . Three certified/sealed copies of this Board Order should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit . But we get over many of those barriers with our mobile care program," according to Bonnie F. Hadden, director 1 of the HealthReach program at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, NY.
