The City's Master Plan calls for restoration of the creeks in the downtown area and creation of a trail system along the creek banks of three creeks, Las Trampas Creek, San Ramon Creek and Walnut Creek. Portions of all three creeks are under the jurisdiction of Contra Costa County Public Works Department, Flood Control Division. Cooperation from Contra Costa County in reviewing and approving the appropriate plans would greatly facilitate implementation of creek restoration efforts and creation of trails along the creeks. In addition, one of the goals of the City's Creek Plan is to interconnect creek trails with other local and regional trails in the area. The City understands that Contra Costa County is the recipient of a trail easement along Las Trampas Creek just west of the City limits but within the City's sphere of influence. The City encourages implementation of this trail to provide county residents with access to the creek trail system and expand access to the creek for all trail users. The City of Walnut Creek suggests that a staff technical committee be established to enhance cooperation for creek restoration and creation of the creek trails. Such a committee could consist of representatives from Contra Costa Community Development Department and the Public Works Department, Flood Control Division and the City of Walnut Creek. The City is excited about implementation of the widely supported Creek Restoration and Trails Plan. A pilot project for the Master Plan will be underway in June, 1996. Any cooperative assistance Contra Costa County can provide in future implementation efforts would be greatly appreciated. If you have any technical questions about the City's proposed plans please contact David Wallace, Senior Planner at 943-5834. Sincerely, GWEN REGALIA Mayor h:\dw\creek\ccctrl.ltr P.O.
