Reasons for Recommendations and Background: A landslide has occurred on County-owned property and on two adjacent public roads, Beaulieu Drive and Sandy Cove Lane. In closed session on March 19, 1996, the Board declared the slide a disaster area and approved the expenditure of funds to purchase necessary property rights. Geotechnical information has emerged which supports the County's purchase of the subject property. Rogers-Pacific Professional Engineers and Geologists has inspected the residence and determined that the post-tension slab has failed and that a crack exists through the entire width and depth of the foundation. Staff anticipates that, upon completion of the slide repair project, foundation can be repaired or replaced and the property sold. IV. Consequences of Negative Action: Delay or failure to act to acquire the subject residence could result in substantially increased costs to the County.
