Date: April 23, 1996 Personal Experience ills and Interests: I have been a nutritionist for 18 years, primarily working with children and adolescents as a clinical nutritionist and in public health settings. In the early 1980's,I co-authored the Special Program In Nutrition(SPIN), a curriculum and intervention program for third and fourth graders and their families to promote heart health. I currently work with adolescents in the UCSF Teen Clinic as well as teach nutrition to those training to be adolescent health care providers. I have given local and national lectures on adolescent nutrition and serve on committees and task forces in the field. Currently,I serve on the federal MCH Bureau's Bright Futures Nutrition Implementation Guide Committee; the guide aims to help state and local health care providers interpret the nutrition and fitness health supervision guidelines from Bright Futures and integrate these in their clinical practice. Education/Background: BA degree in Government from Mills College,Oakland California in 1975; MS degree in Nutrition Science from the University of California, Davis in 1977. I have lived in Contra Costa County 18 years including living in the Moraga and Orinda area since 1980. Occupation (student, for pay work, not for pay work, retiree or similar): Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and nutritionist on the faculty of the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco since 1984(half-time). Through federal funding from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau,we have an Adolescent Health Training Program, which provides interdisciplinary training to health professionals(students and practitioners). I provide didactic and clinical training primarily in the areas of nutrition, disordered eating, and fitness and health promotion. Community Activities: California Adolescent Nutrition and Fitness Program(CANFit) -member of Administrative Board and Program_Committee;American Heart Association(San Francisco)-member of nutrition committee; Girl Scouts -local parent volunteer; Rheem Elementary School(Moraga) -parent volunteer; Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church- member of new-member outreach committee; various community groups-speaker. Special Interests: I am particularly interested in innovative ways to promote health in children and youth that grab the interest of those children and their families, but can be integrated into existing systems and programs to minimize their cost. The CANFit program is an example of this and benefits low income,multi-ethnic 10 to 14 year old youth throughout the state with small planning and intervention grants and comprehensive technical assistance. Personal interests include my family(married and have 3 children), as well as hiking and bike riding. Information: 1.
