ADJOURNING THE
JULY 9, 1996
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING
IN MEMORY
OF
BILL BUCHANAN
I would like to adjourn today's Board of Supervisors meeting in memory and
honor of Mr. Bill Buchanan.
Mr. Buchanan was a long-time resident of the City of Pittsburg, who carried on a
long and proud family tradition of public service to the Pittsburg community and
to the County of Contra Costa. Both Mr. Buchanan's father and his grandfather
served on our County's Board of Supervisors for a total of 56 years. Following in
their footsteps, Bill Buchanan demonstrated civic responsibility in his daily life,
constantly providing services to his community. I will remember Bill as a fellow
Kiwanis member, who pitched in whenever and where, ever his help was needed.
From annual Easter Egg Hunts to pancake breakfasts to festivals - Bill was
there.
Bill Buchanan really loved the landscape of the City of Pittsburg, especially the
golden hills south of the City. He loved this Community and this County. But
most importantly, he loved the people of Contra Costa County. I will miss him.
Tom- FYI- Bill's grandfather W. J. Buchanan was elected to the Board in
1904 and served until his death in 1950. He son (Bill's father), W. G.
Buchanan succeeded his father and served until 1960 (when Linshceid was
elected). So 56 years total service is correct
