APPOINT to the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Child Abuse Issues, representing the General Public and to Chair the Task Force: Paul Crissey 1431 Nicholas Drive Concord, CA 94520 BACKGROUND: On June 6, 1995, the Board of Supervisor approved a report from our Committee. Among the recommendations approved by the Board was the formation of a 14 member Blue Ribbon Task Force on Child Abuse Issues. The Board also authorized our Committee to do whatever screening and interviewing our Committee deemed necessary before returning recommended appointments to the Board of Supervisors. On August 1, 1995, the Board of Supervisors expanded the size of the Committee to 16 members, by adding seats for the Probation Department and Superintendent of Schools. In addition, the Board of Supervisors appointed seven of the members of the Committee. Our Committee has now interviewed all applicants for the remaining seats on the Task Force and has made the above recommendations for appointments to these seats. We would note, as we have before, how pleased we are with the high caliber, dedicated, professional, experienced individuals who have applied for the Task Force. We only wish that we could appoint all of them to the Task Force. We have, however, done the next best thing and have invited all of the applicants to attend meetings of the Task Force and participate in the work of the Task Force. We believe that there is a great deal of important experience and views among the applicants which we do not want to lose. The first meeting of the Task Force is set for Wednesday, September 27, 1995 at 4:00 P.M. at the Training Institute, George Gordon Education Center, 500 Court Street, Martinez. Future meetings will be set at the convenience of the Task Force members. 2 cc: County Administrator Judge Peter Spinetta, Department 11 Judge Lois Haight, Department 10 Sheriff-Coroner District Attorney County Counsel Public Defender Social Service Director County Superintendent of Schools County Probation Officer Brian Baker, Deputy District Attorney Denise Nolan, Deputy Public Defender Capt. And I speak for ourakild a _,_ Look around, thrs";;roobmDg y°ou believe there is there anyone here who could possibly 46 use? You have packed your so-called Blue Ribbon Task Force with your cronies, has-beens and wanabees, the very people we have complained about.. Your so-called Blue Ribbon Task Force is nothing but a sham. It's lip- service. And it's an insult to our children. Mr. DeSaulnier, you lied to me. You said this would not be window dressing. Then after you appointed your buddies, you appointed Dr. Jim Carpenter and Judge Peter Spinetta, two very fine and honorable professionals, using them in a cynical and arrogant attempt to give the deplorable, legitimacy. Who could be FOR child abuse?- The very people who profit from it. You and Doctor Smith have packed your so-called Blue Ribbon Task Force with these very people who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. So far, your so-called public participation process is nothing but window dressing. It shows us exactly how you intend to conduct this whole affair. Six months from now, you will approve a meaningless report and nothing will change. We will not be part of it. We will not allow to use us any more. Are we surprised? No. Disgusted? Yes. This is really a job for the Grand Jury. Not you. Who could possibly be FOR child abuse? You are. If you vote for this. And1p ease. Don't insult us further by responding to our comments by saying "Gee, I'm really sorry you feel that way." Your vote will be your only truly honest answer.
