HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09121995 - P2 IN THE MATTER OF DECLARING ] RESOLUTION NO. 95/394 SEPTEMBER 15 TO OCTOBER 15, ] 1995 LATINO HERITAGE MONTH ] IN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY ] WHEREAS, Latinos have made significant historical contributions in California and Contra Costa County as exemplified when Pio Pico, being of Mexican and African-American descent became the first independent governor of California; and WHEREAS, Latinos welcomed the first American to arrive in California in 1826 and established settlements that later became major California cities; and WHEREAS, Latino expertise in mining and agriculture has had a tremendous affect on the economy of the state; and WHEREAS, the Latino people have enriched this country with their arts, dance, music, foods and other forms of artistic expression; and WHEREAS, the variety of Latino cultures within the County is diverse and therefore able to offer a variety of skills and talents to this County: NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, do hereby recognize and acknowledge the many contributions made by the Latino community and declare September 15 to October 15, 1995 as LATINO HERITAGE MONTH in Contra Costa County, and encourage educational organizations, businesses, and governmental agencies to celebrate this month. PASSED by vote of the Board members present on this 12th day of September, 1995.
