Dear Mr ishop: Thank you for contacting me to express your support regarding the BART extension to the San Francisco Airport . It was good to hear from you. I am a committed advocate of BART, and have a close working relationship with BART' s leadership. In my role on the Transportation Committee, I will work to ensure that BART is funded adequately and that mass transit systems throughout the Country receive solid federal support. I will continue to work hard for worthy transportation projects like BART. Initially, Subcommittee Appropriations Chairman Frank Wolf (R-VA) refused to consider BART funding in FY 96 . I spoke with Wolf about the need for funding and he agreed to include $10 million in his Subcommittee ' s legislation to initiate the extension. I am currently working with BART to find the most reasonable and cost-effective route into the S . F. Airport . As we continue to debate this issue in Congress, I will keep your concerns in mind. Thanks again for sharing your views with me. I appreciate your input and look forward to hearing from you again. T c(pr2 , Bill Baker Member of Congress PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER
