Tyson 756 Hazelwood Drive Walnut Creek, CA 94596 Dear Henry: It is with regret that we must accept your resignation from the Contra Costa Health Plan Advisory Board. Your quiet counsel and good sense, combined with your wealth of knowledge and experience, have made you a truly outstanding Board member, commit- tee Chair and Board Chair. You have a deep understanding of the issues facing us and other public agencies as we grapple with the fast paced changes in health care organiza- tion and financing. We shall all miss you. Please let us know if your position at HCFA ever changes so that it would no longer.be a conflict of interest for you to serve on the new Managed Care Commission or to act in any other community advisory role. Thank you for all your contributions to Contra Costa Health Plan and to the Advisory Board. My new position is with Medicare Managed Care Operations. Given the nature of my position within the agency and on the Board, I believe it is prudent for me to resign at this time to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. I have been honored to serve on the Advisory Board during the past seven years and feel that the Board has made a positive contribution toward improving the general delivery of health care services to needy county residents as well as Medicare beneficiaries and. commercial plan, members. The Board has shared in the struggles of CCHP and Merrithew Hospital to continue providing high quality health care services to county residents. The expansion of clinic hours, the approval of construction of a new county hospital, the approval of CCHP's social HMO demonstration proposal, and preparation for active participation in the "two plan initiative" assures that CCHP will be an important participant in county health care delivery in the future. I am sorry that I will not be able to continue this work with my fellow Board members as the Board joins with the Medi-Cal Advisory Planning Commission. This is indeed an exciting time when change is part of everyday's challenge. I wish you, the new Managed Care Commission, and the CCHP staff the best in your continuing efforts. Finally, I want to thank you, the Board of Supervisors, and my District Supervisor Gayle Bishop, for the opportunity to serve on the CCHP Advisory Board and the residents of Contra Costa County. Sincerely, Henry F. Tyson
