CLERK BOARD OF SUPERVISORS F
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY CONTRA COSTAR CO._
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
THIS IS TO EXPRESS OUR DISAPPROVAL OF YOUR ACTION IN
USURPING CHANNEL 19 (CSPAN) IN FAVOR OF CCTV.
IN VIEWING THE CURRENT CCTV PROGRAMMING, WE FIND IT TO BE
LACK LUSTER, UNINTERESTING AND COMPLETLY LACKING IN
VIEWER APPEAL . MOST OF THE INFORMATION CONVEYED tiPULD
BE CARRIED FREE OF CHARGE IN THE LOCAL PAPERS COMMUNITY_
SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS . THE REMAINDER DOES NOT IN ANY
CONCEIVABLE WAY REPLACE CSPANS MUCH NEEDED UNEXPURGATED
ACCOUNTS OF HAPPENINGS IN WASHINGTON AS WELL AS THE
ABILITY TO HEAR VIEWERS COMMENTS ON CURRENT ISSUES .
IN ADDITION TO LOSING ONE OF OUR MOST INFORMATIVE
CHANNELS WE WONDER HOW MUCH IT COSTS TO PRODUCE THE
CURRENT CLAPTRAP THAT APPEARS STARTING AT 6 : 00 PM AND
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST WHEN IT BECOMES AN EXCLUSIVE
PRESENTATION IN OCTOBER OR JANUARY.
WE FIND THE ANNOUNCEMENT ENCOURAGING UNDOCUMENTED
IMMIGRANTS TO SEEK HEALTH CARE AT MERRITHEW TO BE QUITE
DISTURBING. SINCE THESE FOLKS ARE HERE ILLEGALLY WHY
SHOULD THE TAXPAYERS BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CARE?
THE CLOSING COMMMENT IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT STATES THAT THE
HOSPITAL HAS "NO CONNECTION WITH THE INS" WHY IS IT
NECCESSARY TO POINT THAT OUT?
ONCE AGAIN GOVERNMENT HAS DECIDED WHAT IS BEST FOR THE
CITIZENS WITHOUT ASKING THEM FOR THEIR VIEWS AND WE
RESENT THIS TAKEOVER.

Re: Preemption of CSPAN
CLERK BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
in favor of CCTV CONTRA COSTA CO.
Ladies and Gentlemen:
This letter is to protest the preemption of CSPAN in favor of CCTV.
CCTV is brought to us "courtesy of the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors, " which may suggest that this is merely a political
gimmick instead of substantive TV.
The benefits of CSPAN need not be recited by me. Everybody is
entitled to a station of their choice. We have MTV, CNN, ESPN,
etc. , for all tastes. We even have ethnic channels in several
different languages which I doubt have much of an audience in
Contra Costa County.
CCTV is basically banal, but what really concerns me is that
virtually everything on CCTV on CH 19 is already on CH 3 at other
times during the week.
If this is your only letter of protest, you will undoubtedly ignore
it. I recognized that TCI does not force these changes on the
masses, but they instead are forced by the political elite in
Martinez and elsewhere.
In the unlikely event that all five members of our Board of
Supervisors are really interested in creating legitimate public
service and good TV, I recommend they watch CSPAN. TCI would have
to expand to 100 channels before CCTV could ever be justified on
any one of them.
Veriy, truly yours,:
DAVID MORSE HAMMOND
