CONTRA COSTA COs
Dear Mr. Powers:
The Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association (ACCMA) wishes
%.0 cilcourage, and of far its assistance in de'veloping, a
cooperative arrangement between Contra Costa County and the
local medical community which would enhance access to the
county health system and, at the same time, put to good use
health care resources in the community which are currently
underutilized. The court injunction blocking construction
of the new county hospital has created an opportunity to
renew discussions for a public/private partnership which
would meet the needs of everyone -- patients, the public and
private medical community, county officials, and taxpayers.
It is the ACCMA's longstanding policy that patients in the
county health system receive care in their own community, so
long as the county is able to secure long-term arrangements
which will meet the needs of all the patients whom the
county serves. Physicians and hospitals in both the public
and private sector in Contra Costa County have a proud
history of dedicated care to their patients. Working
.together, that tradition could be enhanced.
The ACCMA encourages the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors and representatives of the medical community to
renew discussions for creating a better county health
system. The ACCMA would be pleased to assist in that
process.
Sincerely,
Michael L. Cohen, MD
President
