RECOMMENDATION: Accept a donation of $10, 000 from Senior Home Delivered Meals of Contra Costa Inc. for the Home Delivered Meals Program of the County Department of Health Services - Public Health Division. These funds were raised through this charitable organization specifically to assist the County Home Delivered Meals Program in purchasing meals and meal delivery equipment to maintain or expand meal delivery services for the County's homebound elderly population. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: This $10, 000 contribution allows the County Home Delivered Meals Program to deliver approximately 6, 500 additional meals to the residences of the county's homebound elderly this fiscal year, or up to 27 additional meals each day. III. BACKGROUND: Including this contribution, Senior Home Delivered Meals of Contra Costa, Inc. has contributed $62, 000 to the County Home Delivered Meals Program since 1991. The organization was formed in 1990 by a coalition of public and private non-profit agencies and advisory councils to raise charitable contribu- tion for the purchase of additional meals and meal delivery equipment to supplement the efforts of the County Home Delivered Program. Participating organizations are: the County Social Services Department's County Office on Aging; the County Health Services Department's Senior Nutrition Program; the County Advisory Council on Aging; the Senior Nutrition Program Advisory Council; Family and Community Services Inc. ; United Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations, Inc. ; and West County Meals on Wheels. The County Home Delivered Meals Program is the largest program of its kind in Contra Costa County, delivering nearly 500 hot nutritious daily meals to the residences of the homebound elderly.
