Lee 2279 Rockne Drive Concord, CA 94518 BACKGROUND: The County Employees Retirement Association is governed by a nine member Retirement Board. Various employee groups elect four of the members (2 by current general members, 1 by current safety members, and 1 by current retirees) . The Board of Supervisors has 4 appointments . The County Treasurer-Tax Collector is an ex-officio member. On April 26 , 1994 , the Board of Supervisors received and referred to the Internal Operations Committee the resignation of Gerald Cruson-from the Retirement Board. Mr. Cruson is one of the Board' s four appointees . On May 17, 1994, the Board of Supervisors authorized our Committee to advertise for these seats, interview the applicants and make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors . We advertised for this vacancy and received a total of 32 applications . We were absolutely overwhelmed with the background, experience, knowledge, interest, and dedication of all of the applicants . Clearly it was extremely difficult for us to narrow this excellent field down to a single individual to nominate for appointment to the Retirement Board. As a result, we narrowed the field down to four individuals and interviewed those four finalists again in order to select a single nominee to recommend to the Board of Supervisors for appointment. The quality, dedication, background, knowledge and experience of all of the applicants whom we have interviewed is most gratifying. It was most difficult for us to select a single applicant to recommend to the Board of Supervisors for this most important position. However, we have completed our interviews and have determined that Mr. Lee is the most qualified applicant. It is with the greatest pleasure that we recommend him for appointment to the Retirement Board. We also hope that the other applicants will make themselves available for future vacancies on the Retirement Board or that they will indicate an interest in serving on one or another of the other advisory boards to which the Board of Supervisors makes appointments . cc: County Administrator Retirement Administrator Auditor-Controller Treasurer-Tax Collector Mr. Jessie J.
