SUBJECT: Ordinance Introduced To Exclude The Class Of Fire
Chief-Contra Costa County Fire Protection District
From The Merit System.
The following ordinance which amend the Ordinance Code of
Contra Costa County as indicated having been introduced, the
Board by unanimous vote of the members present waives full
reading thereof and fixes September 27, 1994 as the time for
adoption of same :
Section I : Section 33 . 5 . 343 of the County Ordinance Code is
amended to exclude the class of Fire Chief-Contra Costa County
Fire Protection District from the Merit System to read:
33-5 . 343 . (a) The class of Fire-chief Contra Costa County
Fire Protection District is excluded, and is appointed by the
Board of Supervisors .
(b) The one-position class of fire officer in the
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District is excluded, and is
appointed by the Fire Chief (Ords . 94- , etc . )

ORDINANCE NO. 94 -
(Fire Chief- Contra Costa County Fire Protection District,
Fire Chief,West County Fire Protection District)
The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors ordains as follows(omitting the parenthetical footnotes from
the official text of the enacted or amended provisions of the County Ordinance Code):
SECTION I: Section 33.5.343 of the County Ordinance Code is amended to exclude the class of Fire Chief-
Contra Costa County fire protection district from the merit system to read:
33-5.343. (a)The class of fire chief-contra costa county fire protection district is excluded,
and is appointed by the Board of Supervisors.
(b)The one-position class of fire officer in the Contra Costa County Fire Protection
District is excluded,and is appointed by the fire chief (Ords. 94- § 1,81-70 §2, 81-32
§1[18],79-79: former§ 32-2.640.)
SECTION II. Section 33-5.345 of the County Ordinance Code excluding the fire chief of the West County fire
protection district is repealed. (Ords. 94- §2,81-70 §2, 81-32 §I[19],80-33 former§ 32-2.642.)
SECTION III: EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance becomes effective 30 days after passage, and within 15
days of passage shall be published once with the names of the supervisors voting for and against it in the
a newspaper published in this County.

Ordinance Exempting the Fire Chief-Contra Costa County Fire Protection District from the Merit
System
Attached is the original and one copy of the revised ordinance exempting the Fire
Chief-Contra Costa County Fire Protection District from the Merit System and repealing
the section exempting the Fire Chief of the now defunct West County Fire Protection
District. We understand that Rich Heyne will provide the rest of the materials relating to
this matter.
