In the Matter Recommending )
a Countywide Advisory Measure on )
the November 8, 1994 Ballot Asking )
For Strict Regulation of All Handguns )
and a Ban of All Assault Weapons ) Resolution No. 94/ 405
WHEREAS, handguns and assault weapons are manufactured and used for
the purpose of killing and injuring people; and
WHEREAS, Contra Costa County citizens have great concerns about the
safety of our community in light of the proliferation of these weapons in our
neighborhoods, schools, and business districts; and
WHEREAS, citizens have had few opportunities to express their concerns
to state lawmakers on the subject of firearms;
WHEREAS, injuries and deaths due to handguns and assault weapons are
the foremost preventable public health crises in Contra Costa County:
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors of
Contra Costa County that it supports a countywide advisory measure on the
November, 1994 ballot which reads: Shall the State of California strictly regulate
the sale and possession of all handguns and ban the sale, manufacture,
transportation and possession of all assault}veapons?
Introduced by Passed and adopted by unanimous votes of those
Tom Powers, Supervisors present on 'August 2, 1994.
