The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors JUL 2 1 1994
651 Pine St.
Martinez CA 94553 CLERK EO;ru Or SUPERVISORS.
Dear Board of Supervisors,
Loaves and Fishes has just been advised by the Contra Costa Food Bank that, as a result of the
proposed elimination of county funds, the service fees for member agencies will likely have to be
increased by 15%. Although, in and of itself, this does not represent a significant cost to Loaves
and Fishes, never the less, any increase in costs requires that we have to seek additional
contributions from our donors. This is particularly troublesome in light of the current economic
conditions in California, as well as the fact that we are already facing higher costs due to the
increasing numbers of people who need to come to our dining rooms.
It is very sad that, after receiving county support for some eighteen years, the Food Bank should
lose such support at a time when it needs it most. On behalf of Loaves and Fishes I urge you to
reconsider your decision, and to reinstate the $67,000 of funding that had been previously
earmarked for the Contra Costa Food Bank.
Sincerel ,
Derek . Jones
