Revised & Retitled May, 1994 HEAD START HEALTH SERVICES COORDINATOR-PROJECT DEFINITION• Under general supervision, coordinates the medical program and nursing activities of the Head Start Grantee Operated Program; performs other related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is a single position project classification, the incumbent of which is responsible on a daily basis for the coordination of all medical and nursing support activities in the Head Start Grantee Operated Program, including supervision of assigned health services staff. The incumbent reports to and .is supervised by the Head Start Grantee Operated Program Director. An incumbent in this class is exempt from the classified service and works in a state and/or federally funded project position administered by Contra Costa County. TYPICAL TASKS• • provides in-service training to all staff and parents; • serves as health consultant to staff; • coordinates and monitors the health screening program; • conducts ongoing assessment and evaluation of the health component; • maintains records and tracking system of health services and health status of all children in the GOP program; • works with families to access level of health care in the community; • directs the work of assigned health services subordinates; • performs related work as required. MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS: License/Permit Required: 1 . Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. 2 . Possession of or eligibility for CPR and First Aid certificates . 3 . Possession of a current state issued nursing license. Experience: Two (2) years of full time equivalent experience working in the community health care field, with emphasis on pediatric care. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: As required by law, all appointees to this class must successfully pass fingerprint and tuberculosis clearances and a current physical examination. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of health oriented medical terminology; knowledge of first aid procedures, hygiene, sanitation and safety practices; knowledge of nutritional, health and dental needs of preschool children; knowledge of childhood illnesses; knowledge of community resources; ability to interpret rules and regulations; ability to direct and supervise the work of others; ability to prepare clear, and concise reports . i
