July 13, 1994 Clerk of the Board County Board of Supervisors 651 Pine Street Martinez, CA 94553 Re: Stone Valley Road Widening Dear Clerk of the Board, I am NOT in favor of widening Stone Valley Road. I ARA in favor of considering alternative plans. I support the recommendation for neer traffic studies. The county department of engineers is making their recommendation based on studies done before some of the improvements that noir exist on Stone Valley Road. In addition, the data cited by the county department of engineers with the intent of showing the accident rate was going up on Stone Valley Road actually indicated the opposite -- that the accident rate was going down! I do NOT support the installation of a traffic light or a stop sign at Miranda until the new traffic studies are completed and analyzed. IF some action MUST be taken before the traffic studies are completed and analyzed, 1 DO support (1) repaving where deemed appropriate, and (2) if necessary in the interim, a stop sign at Miranda. I believe that the county department of engineers feels pressured to use up money that developers were required to contribute towards to road improvements. In my opinion, the Stone Valley Road widening project is "make work°, and should not proceed at all. Let us see data from new traffic studies, and then consider the best alternative solutions IF change is actually required. Sincerely, Pamela B. Destruction of the last stretch of Stone Valley Road that retains any real "rural" beauty i ° Widening the road will increase traffic speed which is already a problem Because of all of the above, it surely seems like there is a better use for our limited tax dollars. am a twenty year resident of Contra Costa County, I do vote, and I would like to be kept posted of the outcome at my home:.
