RECOMMENDATION:
AUTHORIZE the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors to execute two
letters to the City of Richmond and the Brentwood Economic
Development Agency thanking them for their donation of $200 to help
fund the California State Fair Exhibit.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND:
In April, the Contra Costa County Chambers of Commerce and the
Board of Supervisors asked cities to assist with the California
State Fair Exhibit by sending a contribution of $200 . The City of
Richmond and Brentwood Economic Development Agency expressed their
support for this worthwhile project by each sending a donation of

The Contra Costa Chambers have provided substantial monetary
support for this project over the past few years through their May

that we continue to work together to provide the citizens of
California and visitors with a quality exhibit which truly
represents the beauty of and quality of life. in Contra Costa

SUBJECT: Health Plan
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)6 BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATION
Authorize the Office of the County Administrator and the Department of Personnel to develop
and issue a Request for Proposals for an additional health plan for eligible County employees
and retirees.
BACKGROUND
- The 1st Choice Employee Benefits Trust has advised the County Administrator of the
need to increase the premium for the 1st Choice Health Plan by 35% effective
November 1, 1993.
- This level of increase is unacceptable and will result in a financial hardship for the
County, its employees and retirees.
- There are no funds available for this level of increase.
- It is prudent for the County to explore the marketplace to identify options available to
supplement existing County-offered health plans in an effort to meet the health care
needs of its employees and retirees at an affordable rate.
- It is recognized that the County has an obligation to meet and confer with the employee
representatives on the issue of health benefits prior to implementation of a plan for
represented employees.
