SUBJECT: Approve Termination of Automatic. Contract Extension in
Standard Contract #24-647-1 with Harbor Hills Hospital, Inc.
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Health Services Department to a issue 30-day
advance written notice to Harbor Hills Hospital, Inc. to terminate the
Automatic Contract Extension set forth in Standard Contract #24-647-1
(as amended) , effective close of business on October 15, 1993 .
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The Automatic Contract Extension, which would extend Standard Contract
#24-647-1 to December 31, 1993 , is being terminated effective October
15, 1993 as part of the Department's Budget Reduction Plan for Fiscal
Year 1993-94 .
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONSIBACKGROUND:
On November 17, 1992, the Board approved Standard Contract #24-647-1,
and on May 25, 1993, approved Contract Amendment Agreement #24-647-2,
with Harbor Hills Hospital, Inc. , for the period from October 1, 1993
through June 30, 1993 , for admission of, and treatment for, mentally
disturbed persons in need of subacute skilled nursing care in a
facility hereinafter known as an Institution for the Mentally Diseased
(IMD) . This Contract included provision for a six-month automatic
contract extension through December 31, 1993 .
Approval by the Board of Supervisors will allow the Health Services
Department to issue a thirty-day advance written notice to the
Contractor, in accordance with Paragraph 5. (Termination) of the
General Conditions, that the Automatic Contract Extension set forth in
Special Conditions Paragraph 4 . (Automatic Contract Extension) is
terminated effective close of business on October 15, 1993 .

Automatic Contract Extension of
Standard Contract Number 24-647-1
(As Amended by Contract Amendment Agreement Number 24-647-2)
The purpose of this letter is to notify you that the Automatic
Contract Extension set forth in Special Conditions Paragraph 6 of
the County's contract with you (Standard Contract #24-647-1 (as
amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #24-647-2) for IMD services
for Contra Costa County patients] is being terminated because of
pending reductions in County and State funding.
This letter provides you with thirty (30) days advance written
notice that the Automatic Contract Extension, specified in
Paragraph 6 (Automatic Contract Extension) of the Special
Conditions of Standard Contract #24-647-1 (as amended by Contract
Amendment Agreement #24-647-2) is hereby terminated effective close
of business on October 15, 1993, in accordance with Paragraph 5.
(Termination) of the Contract General Conditions.
