HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08171993 - 1.25 IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA In the matter of ) PROCLAIMING September 9, 1993 ) as the "National Council of ) Jewish Women' s National Day of) the Working Parent" ) RESOLUTION NO. 93/ 503 WHEREAS the National Council of Jewish Women is celebrating its 100 years of working for America' s families. . . . . . 1893-1993; and WHEREAS, during the 100 Years of Community Service, the Council has worked in over 500 communities to further the well-being of families of all socio-economic, religious, racial and ethnic backgrounds; and WHEREAS, this Centennial Anniversary marks the Contra Costa and Mt. Diablo Sections many years of accomplishments, dedication, and commitment in providing vital community services, meeting local needs, by helping people to balance their work and family responsibilities, to learn more about child and elder care options; and WHEREAS, some of the many accomplishments: The Contra Costa Section; has founded, organized and funded a volunteer program for the Alzheimer' s Respite Center in Walnut Creek, adopted the Floyd I. Marchus School, K through 12, serving the entire Contra Costa community, to tutor and provide tender loving care, as well as some monetary assistance for emotionally damaged and very deserving children, has taught English 'as a second language for new immigrants, has provided tutors to the Mt. Diablo School District, and has supplied hand knitted layettes for indigent new-borns at Merrithew Hospital; the Mt. Diablo Evening Section which is mostly business and professional women, have been working closely with the Battered Women's Alternative in providing care for children in the evening while their mothers are getting counselling; and WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women is forging partnerships in communities around the country to broaden employer and general public awareness of dependent care issues, and to implement strategies for meeting those needs. Our families are central to the well-being, strength and success of our society; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that the National Council of Jewish Women is COMMENDED for their many years of dedicated and exemplary services, time, devotion and commitment in helping families and businesses in Contra Costa County; and BE IT HEREBY FURTHER RESOLVED that September 9, 1993, be PROCLAIMED and DECLARED as "National Council of Jewish Women' s National Day of the Working Parent. " PASSED AND ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 17th day of August, 1993. I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
