Presentation before the Board of Supervisors by DTPA Alumni and Employers on August 10, 1993 SPECIFIC REOUEST(S)OR RECOMMENOATION(S)A BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I. RECOMMENDATION To honor and acknowledge the County's Private Industry Council DTPA program graduates and their employers for the outstanding example of a successful public-private partnership; and Whereas, over 13,000 DTPA program graduates have been placed in jobs since the Act was implemented in 1983, graduates who contribute to the State's and County's economy and enjoy the benefits and security of having a job. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT None. One hundred percent Federal funds. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND Whereas, the Board of Supervisors has proclaimed August 9, 1993 - August 13, 1993, as "DTPA Alumni Week in Contra Costa County"; and Whereas, Pete Wilson, Governor of the State of California, has proclaimed August 1993 as California's Job Training Partnership Act Month, and urges employers to use the valuable labor force resources in their communities and to become more actively involved in Private Industry Council job training partnerships. This week long celebration is in recognition of the success of individuals that have participated in the JTPA program. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT None; 100 percent federal funds. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND - Whereas the Board of Supervisors having joint powers of authority as grant recipient and grant administrator and having established the Private Industry Council under the Job Training Partnership Act of 1982, on June 28, 1993, which implemented the operation of the Job Training Partnership Act (DTPA) Program effective October 1, 1983. The Private Industry Council in partnership with the County Board of Supervisors continues to provide services to our economically disadvantaged County population i.e., unemployed and unskilled youths and adults, displaced homemakers, displaced workers, GAIN and public assistance recipients, disabled individuals, and others facing serious barriers to employment. The purpose of promoting National JTPA Alumni Week is to give DTPA Alumni and employers recognition. This is to confirm my conversation with you that the Private Industry Council will be agended at 9:00 a.m. on August 10 for a special 20 minute presentation to the Board as part of DTPA Alumni month. We anticipate having a PIC officer and 6 former participants and/or their employers to each briefly address the Board. We will be utilizing Room 108 for a reception for these honorees and the Board members prior to the Board meeting. We would also like to invite you to join us at this reception.
