In the Matter of Declaring July 31, 1993 }
as HOTEL AND RESTAURANT } RESOLUTION NO. 9314 5 6
WORKERS' APPRECIATION DAY in }
Contra Costa County }
WHEREAS, over 20,000 people work in hotels and restaurants in Contra Costa County, and
many of these workers face an invisible crisis as the working poor; and
WHEREAS, many hotel and restaurant workers do not receive affordable health care benefits,
forcing workers and their children to utilize public health services; and
WHEREAS, hotel and restaurant workers often must work two jobs to be able to provide for their
families, and
WHEREAS, issues pertaining to hotel and restaurant workers will be discussed at a hearing on
July 31, 1993; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors recognizes the need to study these important issues and
supports the concept of examining matters of concern at the July 31 hearing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors declares July 31, 1993
as HOTEL AND RESTAURANT WORKERS'APPRECIATION DAY in Contra Costa County
and extends its best wishes for a productive and successful meeting.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON July 27, 1993, by a unanimous vote of the Board members
present.
