COMMUNITY POLL ON WEST PITTSBURG NAME CHANGE
BALLOT ENCLOSED
Dear Resident of West Pittsburg,
The League of Women Voters of Diablo Valley has been asked by the Contra
Costa County Board of Supervisors to conduct a poll of West Pittsburg registered
voters to find out if residents want to change the name from West Pittsburg to Bay
Point. Enclosed is a ballot for you to vote in this poll.
You must be a resident of West Pittsburg, and you must be registered to vote
with the County Elections Department on or before July 8, 1993, to vote in this poll.
Just as in a regular election, YOU MAY VOTE BY MAIL OR IN PERSON IN
THIS POLL.
TO VOTE BY MAIL IN THIS POLL:
Follow the instructions given on the enclosed ballot exactly. The instructions
are the same as those used for absentee ballots by the Elections Department and will
help us check your registration and prevent duplicate voting. Please mail back your
ballot on or before July 17, 1993. You may also turn in your ballot on July 17 at
Ambrose Community Center if you have not mailed it by then.
TO VOTE IN PERSON IN THIS POLL:
Come to the Ambrose Community Center, 3105 Willow Pass Road, West
Pittsburg, on Saturday, July 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to vote in person.
You are receiving this letter because you are registered to vote in West
Pittsburg. If you know of any West Pittsburg resident who will be 18 years old on or
before July 17, is a U.S. citizen, and wishes to vote in this poll but is not now
registered to vote, they may pick up voter registration forms and a ballot at the
Ambrose Community Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
(closed 12 noon to 1:00 p.m.)
The League will be sponsoring a debate on the name change on Thursday,
July 8, at 7:30 p.m. at Ambrose Community Center. Arguments for and against the
name change will be made by supporters and opponents, and questions will be taken
from the audience. Ballots and voter registration forms will also be available at the
debate.
Please take a few minutes to fill out the enclosed ballot and mail it back, or
come to Ambrose Community Center on July 17 to make your opinion count.

hand corner of the envelope, sign your full name as you are
registered to vote. Then print or type your full name and
address below your signature. Do not place anything else in the

4) You may also deliver your ballot to the League on July 17
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Ambrose Community Center,

signed envelope with your name and address as outlined in #2
above.
