In the Matter of Proclaiming )
the Week of August 16-20, 1993 ) RESOLUTION NO. 93/
ad "Jury Appreciation Week" )
WHEREAS during the week of August 16-20, 1993, the American Board
of Trial Advocates will be recognizing "Jury Appreciation Week";
and
WHEREAS December 15, 1992 marked the 201st anniversary of the Bill
of Rights, which among other freedoms, guarantees citizens the
right to trial by jury; and
WHEREAS the American Board of Trial Advocates is dedicated to
protecting the rights given to us by our founding fathers more than
two centuries ago; and
WHEREAS the American Board of Trial Advocates is an organization of
experienced trial lawyers who believe that the jury system is the
one system of jurisprudence which guarantees necessary safeguards
for the protection of rights of persons and property, and that this
system should be preserved in its essence; and
WHEREAS "Jury Appreciation Week" is the perfect opportunity for the
American Board of Trial Advocates to publicly thank the residents
of Contra Costa County for serving as jurors;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA
COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLVED that it HEREBY PROCLAIMS the week of
August 16-20, 1993, as "Jury Appreciation Week" in Contra Costa
county, calls upon all the residents of this County to join in
supporting the aims and goals of this important event, which will
recognize jurors for fulfilling an important part in a democracy,
and urges residents to help reserve one of the most precious rights
we have - "The Right To Trial By Jury. "
PASSED AND ADOPTED on July 27, 1993- by unanimous vote of the Board
members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of
a resolution entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on
the date aforesaid.
