SUBMISSION .OF PROPOSAL FOR YOUTH PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PRO THROUGH THE
SUBJECT: U. S . DEPARTMENT OF LABOR
SPECIFIC REOUEST(SWLR RECOMMENDA ION�s�asg�G ROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I . RECOMMENDETD PiC:'1'lUN
APPROVE submission of a proposal for funding to implement a Youth
Pre-Apprenticeship program through the U. S. Department of Labor to
compete for a 12 month Youth Apprenticeship pilot project. The
potential amount to be awarded is $250, 000 for the contract per
year.
AUTHORIZE the Director, Community Services Department, or her
designee, to sign application documents and contracts on behalf of
the County. There are no County funds involved with this request.
II . FINANCIAL IMPACT
None. This request is for an application for a competitive process .
The amount to be awarded is not known nor guaranteed. If and when
an amount is awarded for this competitive project an appropriation.
adjustment will be forwarded to the County for processing.
III . CONSEQUENCES OF NEGATIVE ACTION
A decision not to approve this application could result in loss of
a much needed Youth Apprenticeship program for families in Contra
Costa County.
IV. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDED ACTION
This proposed action provides funding to the Community Services
Department to develop a program for the training of youth for
employment after high school and/or encourage the individual to
continue the educational process . This program concept. has
received major support county-wide from families, community
organizations, business and labor. . No County funds_ are involved
with this request.
