Martinez, Acting Interim Executive Director SUBJECT: SPECIAL ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM BY CONTRA COSTA SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT I. RECOMMENDED ACTION: AUTHORIZE provision of $15,000, including a carry-over o-I.-' $245.51, in Housing Authority funds to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's DepartmentL. for continuation of the special drug enforcement program, as recommended by the Advisory Housing Commission. II. FINANCIAL IMPACT: In the preparation of the 1992-93 Housing Authority operating budget, funds were budgeted and approved for the continuation of the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department special drug enforcement program. III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND: On October 10, 1992 the Housing Authority provided the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department with $15,000 to continue a special drug enforcement program for the 1991-92 county fiscal year. On August 5, 1992 the Housing Authority received a report from the Sheriff's Department on the results of the special drug enforcement program. A total of 186 drug-related reports were generated during fiscal 1991-92 and a marked decline was noted in the drug-related crimes within the Housing Authority's North Richmond housing development. Approximately 70 search warrants were conducted on known/suspected drug locations. In the past eight years, this special drug enforcement program has been very successful as it has reduced the amount of drug-related criminal activity in housing developments located in the unincorporated areas of the county serviced by the Sheriff's Department. For the 1992-93 county fiscal year, the Sheriff's Department is requesting that funds be provided by the Housing Authority to continue this special drug enforcement program. As Sheriff's Department utilized only $14,754.49 of the $15,000 supplied by the Housing Authority in 1991, they have requested that the Sheriff's Department be allowed to carry over the $245.51 in unexpended Housing Authority funds CONTINUED ON ATTACHMENTS YES SIGNATUftEt AA RECOMMENDATION OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RECOMMENDATION SF BOARD CO MITTEE APPROVE OTHER SIGNATURE(S) y ACTION OF BOARD ON APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED OTHER VOTE OF COMMISSIONERS X UNANIMOUS (ABSENT ) I HEREBY CERTIFY THAT THIS A TRUE AND AYES: NOES: CORRECT COPY OF AN ACTION TAKEN AND ABSENT: ABSTAIN: ENTERED ON THE MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ON THE DATE SHOWN.
