Box 911 Martinez, CA 94553 Gentlemen: Recently the West County Mayors met to discuss the Contra Costa County Transportation Advisory Committee which was recently established by the Board of Supervisors. From previous briefings about the Transportation Committee, it was our understanding that the Committee would perform only as an advocate for the county's transportation needs. Our review of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 83/1140 gives us concern that the duties of the Transportation Committee may go well beyond the advocate position. The Mayors of West Contra Costa County have been satisfied with the existing City/County Engineering Advisory Committee in their determination of the transportation needs and priorities of this county. We feel that their input to the Board of Supervisors and the cities of this county should not be impeded by another layer of government. In addition, Resolution 83/1140 does not clearly define the reporting responsibilities of the Technical Advisory Committee. In the future, would this Committee continue to report recommenda- tions to the Board of Supervisors or to the Transportation Advisory Committee? We would be happy to meet with you at your convenience concern- ing our views regarding this matter. Very truly yours, 6d 0 ,i.,a CITY OF RI OND CITY OF SAN PABLO omas J. orcoran, Mayor n S.
