HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08061991 - S.2 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FROM: Contra Supervisor Tom Torlakson Costa DATE: August 6 , 1991 County SUBJECT: REFER TO ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE THE ISSUE OF CONTAMINATED SOIL IN THE BYRON AREA SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Refer to the Environmental Affairs Committee, GMEDA, and Health Department the issue of contaminated soil in the Byron area. Request a status report on contaminated soil . resulting from a leak in a pipeline which occurred in approximately late December 1990 . BACKGROUND INFORMATION: After the leakage from the pipeline occurred, contaminated soil from the area was gathered and a tarp was placed over it. Subsequently, some fencing. has been provided around this contaminated soil . However, it has not as yet been removed from the site. Residents of the Byron area have expressed concern over the length of time taken to clean and remove this soil. In addition, they indicate that the measures currently being taken to contain the soil are not adequate, and some of the contaminated soil is blowing off of the site.
