Back r On June 25, 1991, the Board of Supervisors requested the Social Service Department to make recommendations, based on priority needs, for the allocation of$35,000 to Pittsburg Preschool Coordinating Council and Contra Costa Child Care Council. On July 11, 1991, the Social Service Department met with Kate Ertz-Berger of Contra Costa Child Care Council and Frances Green of Pittsburg Preschool Coordinating Council to determine priority needs and proposed use of funds. Contra Costa Child Care Council would use the recommended $17,500 to provide child care in East County for Born Free Counseling groups for drug-addicted mothers in recovery and for an additional six children referred from Child Protective Services of the Social Service Department. Pittsburg Preschool Coordinating Council would use the recommended $17,500 to provide therapeutic licensed day care for four infants/toddlers whose mothers have a substance abuse problem and/or are homeless. Actual costs total $20,299.92; Ms. Green says her organization will pay the difference in amount. Ms. Green and her organization will also provide comprehensive services to the parent(s) of the children served. On July 9, 1991, the co-chairs of the FACT Committee sent a letter to Tom Powers, Chair of the Board of Supervisors requesting the Board to include Early Childhood Mental Health Preschool Consultation Program in the disbursement of the $35,000 here discussed.
