Agreement (County #23-010-5)
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Chair to execute on behalf of the County,
College Work-Study Program Agreement #23-010-5 with the University of
California, Berkeley, and authorize expenditure of an amount not to
exceed $20, 000 for the period July 1, 1990 through June 30, 1993 for
continuation of participation by the Health Services Department in
the College Work-Study Program; and
Authorize the Director (or his/her designee) for each Division to
which students are assigned to execute the Paid Work-Study Partici-
pant Agreement form required for each student by Agreement #23-010-5.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The County's portion of this Contract is funded by State Proposition
99 Funds in the Health Services Department's FY 1990-91 Budget.
Expenditure of the $20, 000 Payment Limit under this Agreement will
depend upon the Department's utilization of students participating in
the program during the three-year term of the Agreement. The Paid
Work-Study Program is funded 50% by the participating agency (County)
and 50% by the University of California, Berkeley.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
The Health Services Department has participated in the College Work-
Study Program with the University of California, Berkeley since 1982 .
Agreement #23-010-3 , effective July 1, 1987 through June 30, 1990,
was approved by the Board on June 23, 1987.
This program provides the County with services of university students
who perform part-time work at very reasonable hourly rates since the
program is jointly funded by the County and the University, while
benefiting students who are in need of earnings in order to pursue
higher education.
The Board Chair should sign three copies of the Agreement, two of
which should then be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit for
submission to the University of California, Berkeley.
