honoring the retirement of )
. Reverend Robert E. Williams) RESOLUTION NO. 90/629
WHEREAS, Reverend Robert E. Williams earned a Bachelor' s degree from
Occidental College in 1947 and a Masters of Divinity at San Francisco
Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Robert spent three years during World War II serving as a
Naval line officer in the Pacific during. which time he. realized the per-
sonal necessity of establishing a firm foundation for world peace and
order, based upon religious faith; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Williams and his wife, Betsy, arrived in Walnut
Creek on May 1 , 1958, and have raised their three daughters, Patricia,
Barbara and Debbie, in' this community; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Williams has been the pastor of Grace Presbyterian
Church for the last thirty-two and a half years and has decided to retire
on September 30, 1990 ; and
WHEREAS, . besides Robert' s work at Grace Presbyterian Church, his
contributions to the community have included a position as Director of
the Walnut Creek area for the Diablo Foundation, his term as President of
the California Council of Churches, his involvement with the Crisis and
Suicide Intervention of Contra Costa County, and his memberships on the
East Bay Municipal Utilities District Citizens Advisory Committee, the
Walnut Creek Kiwanis, and the Congregation and Mission Development
Committee of the Presbytery of San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Williams was a driving force in the conception and
development of both the Tice Oaks Housing for the Elderly and Casa
Montego senior housing facilities; and
WHEREAS, through his energetic and tireless efforts within the
communities of Grace Presbyterian Church, Walnut Creek, and Contra Costa
County, the lives of many individuals have been influenced and many have
benefited from his support and assistance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Contra Costa Board of
Supervisors COMMENDS Reverend Robert E. Williams for his exemplary
dedication- and devotion to the congregation of Grace Presbyterian Church,
as well as the larger community of Contra Costa County and CONGRATULATES
him on his retirement and wishes Reverend Williams and his wife, Betsy,
health and happiness in their future endeavors.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on
this 25th day of September, 1990.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct copy of a
resolution entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors on the
date aforesaid.
