SUBJECT: Public Hearing of the 1990 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP)
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) &BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. Recommended Action:
Authorize Supervisor Tom Powers and the Public Works Director to testify on behalf of Contra .
Costa County at the California Transportation Commission public hearing on August 10, 1990
regarding the adoption of the 1990 State Transportation Improvement Program.
II. Financiallmpact:
None.
Ill. Reasons for Recommendations and Background:
On August 10, 1990, the California Transportation Commission will be taking testimonies of
Northern California Counties on the 1990 STIP. The San Francisco delegation will be led by
Supervisor Robert Schroder as Chair of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Work
Program Subcommittee. Contra Costa County is proposed to be represented by Mayor Taylor
Davis of Pittsburg serving as Chair of the Contra Costa Transportation Authority and by
Supervisor Tom Powers and Mr. Walford, the Public Works Director.
Several Contra Costa County projects are nominated to receive funds from the State. They are
the cost increases on the 1-80, 1-680/24 and 1-680 widening projects; the Richmond Parkway; and
extension of BART to West Pittsburg, for a total of about $204 million.
