Rev. and Mrs. Palmer Watson ) Resolution No. : 90/499
For Over Forty Years of Public)
Service to Contra Costa County)
WHEREAS Dr. and Mrs. Palmer Watson are being honored for
over forty years of dedicated public service to the poor and
disadvantaged citizens of Contra Costa County; and
WHEREAS Rev. Palmer Watson came to San Pablo and a ministry
at the MacArthur Community Baptist Church in 1950 and soon
became the full-time pastor; and
WHEREAS Rev. Palmer Watson recognized intuitively the evil
gambling inflicts on a community and soon began a successful
and hard-fought campaign to rid San Pablo of gambling run by
organized crime; and
WHEREAS Rev. Palmer Watson found time beyond his pastoral
duties to organize campaigns to found the Lake Child Center,
build the San Pablo Library, set up a program for the
developmentally disabled that eventually became the George
Miller Center west, construct Judson Homes for low-income
and handicapped residents, set up the Meals on Wheels
Program in West County, and opened up the San Pablo Food
Pantry, as well as serving on both County and State Mental
Health Advisory Boards, and bring spiritual nourishment to
patients in Brookside Hospital and to the officers of the
San Pablo Police Department: and
WHEREAS Mrs. Palmer Watson left Wyoming, where she was her
County's youngest and first woman Deputy County Assessor,
and come to California; and
WHEREAS Mrs. Palmer Watson assisted the Church's ministry by
developing the Girls Guild Program and assisting as the
Church's secretary.
HOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
of the County of Contra Costa, California, hereby COMMENDS
Rev. and Mrs. Palmer Watson on over forty years of
productive public service to the people of Contra Costa
County and EXTENDS to Rev. and Mrs. Palmer Watson its best
wishes for much further civic accomplishment, enjoyment, and
success in ministering to the spiritual and physical needs
of the citizens of San Pablo.
Passed and adopted on July 31, 1990, by unanimous vote of
the Board members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and current
copy of a resolution entered in the minutes of the Board of
Supervisors on the date aforesaid.
