SUBJECT: Conversion of County Vehicles to Natural Gas
Barton J. Gilbert, Director, General Services
Department, advised that four County vehicles are designated to be
converted to natural gas as part of a pilot program. He stated
that the first vehicle has been converted and will be put into
service next week. He noted that the vehicle was similar to those
used by PG&E and would be fueled at the PG&E site in Concord.
Mr. Gilbert commented on proposed Federal legislation
which would require 25% of fleet vehicles to be converted to
alternative fuels by the year 2000 . He stated that the reliability
of the current test vehicles will determine how many County
vehicles will ultimately be converted. He noted, however, that the
County may well be in the forefront in meeting Federal regulations.
IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the report from the
General Services Director is ACCEPTED.
