Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the Exhibit Committee members. IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the aforementioned exhibit is ACCEPTED. The new exhibit shows the location,history and geographic diversity of Contra Costa County. In the summer of 1988, representatives from the West and East County Chapters of the California Retired Teachers Association approached the County with a request to update the Capitol exhibit. Through the leadership of the California Retired Teachers Association, Contra Costa Council was invited to meet at the Office of the County Administrator and form the Sacramento Exhibit Committee. This committee developed the concept for the exhibit of "Progress and Diversity," the basic outline of the design, and the content to be included. Under the direction of Contra Costa Council, a task force of retired teachers conducted extensive research in all parts of the County. Mr. J. W. Bowen, a former teacher and Contra Costa resident, was selected to design the exhibit. - - more - - The central panel of the exhibit, a map, depicts the economical, geographical, and recreational diversity of the County and its' relationship to other important areas of the State. Side panels detail important facets of working and living in Contra Costa County. County annual events are listed in a journal at the base of the map.To allow for a broad pictorial representation of the County,the Committee recommended and the Board of, Supervisors agreed that pictures would be changed frequently. Formally accepted by the Board of Supervisors on September 19, 1989,the new exhibit will be placed in the State Capitol by October 1, 1989. There will be a presentation ceremony at the State Capitol on January 4, 1990. PB:eh sacex2.prs
