COUNTY'S DISPLAY IN CAPITOL GET'S A NEW LOOK
Where is Contra Costa County?Visitors to the State Capitol in Sacramento will know.
The new exhibit shows the location, history and geographic diversity of Contra Costa
County. In the summer of 1988, representatives from the West and East County
Chapters of the California Retired Teachers Association approached the County with
a request to update the Capitol exhibit.
Through the leadership of the California Retired Teachers Association, Contra Costa
Council was invited to meet at the Office of the County Administrator and form the
Sacramento Exhibit Committee. This committee developed the concept for the exhibit
of "Progress and Diversity," the basic outline of the design, and the content to be
included. Under the direction of Contra Costa Council, a task force of retired teachers
conducted extensive research in all parts of the County. Mr. J. W. Bowen, a former
teacher and Contra Costa resident, was selected to design the exhibit.

recreational diversity of the County and its' relationship to other important areas of the
State. Side panels detail important facets of working and living in Contra Costa County.
County annual events are listed in a journal at the base of the map.To allow for a broad
pictorial representation of the County, the Committee recommended and the Board of,
Supervisors agreed that pictures would be changed frequently.
Formally accepted by the Board of Supervisors on September 19, 1989,the new exhibit
will be placed in the State Capitol by October 1, 1989. There will be a presentation
ceremony at the State Capitol on January 4, 1990.
