SUBJECT: STATUS REPORT ON PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENTS

RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Acknowledge receipt of this report on provisional appointments which have been made for the quarter ending
August 31, 1989.
2. Request the Director of Personnel to make a further report to our Committee December 11, 1989 on provisional
appointments which have been made for the period September 1, 1989 through November 30, 1989.
BACKGROUND:
Our Committee has been receiving reports each quarter on provisional appointments which have been made by the
Director of Personnel. Our Committee made the last status report to the Board of Supervisors on this subject on June
27, 1989.
On September 11, 1989 we received the attached report from the Director of Personnel on provisional appointments
which have been made during the period June 1, 1989 through August 31, 1989. This report shows that only one
provisional appointment has been made, which was continued from previous months. Our Committee remains
pleased that to see that the absolute minimum number of provisional appointments are being made.
We would like to continue receiving quarterly reports on the subject of provisional appointments and have therefore
recommended that the Director of Personnel make a further report to our Committee on December 11, 1989.

SUBJECT: Report on Provisional Appointments v
On June 19, 1989, the Internal Operations Committee requested that the Director
of Personnel provide further information on the status of provisional
appointments made during the period June 1, 1989 to August 31, 1989. Attached
are the monthly reports of all provisional appointments through August 31, 1989.
Information includes the class to which provisional appointment was made, race
and sex of each incumbent, and the disposition of each.
