THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA Adopted this Order on _September 19, 1989_, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers , Fanden, Schroder, McPeak, Torlakson NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ SUBJECT: Meeting with the Contra Costa County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission The Board of Supervisors met with members of the Contra Costa County.;Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission in Room 108 ,., County Administration Building, to discuss. the impact of reduced funding on juvenile justice and delinquency prevention programs There was discussion on the need to identify short range and long range goals and the development of plans and strategies to achieve these goals; on the need to meet with the County' s Legis- lative Delegation to make them aware of and solicit their support to fund delinquency prevention programs including the establishment of a funding source to replace old juvenile facilities; the need to meet with city councilmembers to make them aware of the problems in the juvenile justice area, the costs associated with maintaining ajuvenile in custody, and a request for their assistance in devel- oping a funding source for juvenile justice programs; projected population increase at county juvenile facilities in the next five to ten years and the impact on existing facilities; the feasibility of establishing a committee or task force to work on these issues; and the restricted ability of county government to raise revenue to fund certain programs. The Commission was designated to identify short and medium range goals to address . immediate needs. Supervisor Schroder volunteered to serve as the Board' s liaison in this endeavor. Judge Minney and Gerald Buck, Probation Officer, and Supervisor Toalakson agreed to participate at the joint liaison meetings in the review and formulation of strategies and plans. There was consensus to enter into discussions with other human service committees to coordinate this effort. 1 hereby certify that this is a true and correct copy of an action taken and entered on the minutes of the Board of Supervisors on the date shown.
