RECOMMENDED ACTION : Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the County , Contract 4123-071-7 with Kirby Cooper , Ph.D. in the amount of $56 , 100 for the period June 25 , 1989 - June 24 , 1990 for management of the Bay Area Trauma Registry. II . FINANCIAL IMPACT : This contract has been funded by the State under a contract with the State Emergency Medical Services (EMS ) Authority, and user fees from the participating counties . The State is in the process of developing a new contract to continue funding through June 24 , 1990 . Funds for this contract are budgeted in the Department ' s FY 1989-90 budget . No County funding is required. The payment limit of the prior contract for the Contractor ' s services for the period June 25 , 1988 through June 24 , 1989 was $48 , 100 . III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND : On October 1 , 1985 , the Board approved State Contract 4129-321 (Standard Agreement EMS-640 ) with the State Emergency Medical Services Authority for establishment of a Regional Trauma Registry for Bay Area Counties , with Contra Costa as the host County. On September 20 , 1988 , the Board approved Contract 4129-321-4 with the State in the amount of $84 , 200 for con- tinuation of State funding for the Bay Area Trauma Registry Project for the period from June 25 , 1988 through June 24 , 1989 .. Attached is a copy of a letter the Department recently received indicating that the State Emergency Medical Services Authority intends to grant $82 , 200 of funding for the Bay Area Trauma Registry effective June 25 , 1989 through June 24 , 1990 . This contract is being developed by the State and will be submitted to the Board for approval as soon as it is received. Cooper has provided direction, consultation , and technical assistance to the Bay Area Trauma Registry for the past three years under subcontracts which have been approved by your Board . The increase in the amount of this contract reflects compen- sation commensurate with the Project Director ' s responsibilities and expenses which are necessary to continue management activi- ties for the Bay Area Trauma Registry. The Department is requesting approval of Contract #23-071-7 which will continue Dr . Cooper ' s contract services without interruption through June 24 , 1990.
