SUBJECT: Approve Standard Agreement #29-386 with The Regents of the
University of California, Davis for Contra Costa County Area AIDS
Education and Training Center Services
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) IN BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
I. . RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalf of the
County, Subcontract #29-386 with The Regents of the University of
California, Davis in the amount of $43 , 200 for the period from
September 1, 1988 through August 31, 1989 for Contra Costa Area
AIDS Education and Training Center Services.
II. FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This subcontract will provide $43,200 of Health Resources and
Services Administration funds for training resources for health
care professionals in Contra Costa County on the epidemiology,
prevention and treatment of HIV infection or AIDS.. Continued
funding for up to three years is anticipated, with probable
reductions in funding level after this first contract year. No
County funding is required.
III. REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND:
The University of California has received funding from the U. S.
Department of Health and Human Services (Health Resources and
Services Administration) for an AIDS Regional Education and
Training Centers Program: This document is a subcontract between
The Regents of the University of California, Davis and Contra Costa
County for AIDS Education and Training Center services.
This program is needed to develop training resources for health
Care professionals in Contra Costa County on the epidemiology,
prevention and treatment of HIV infection or AIDS. The project
goals are to increase the number of physicians, dentistry nurses
and mental health professionals willing to treat persons infected
with HIV and to improve the quality of care provided.
The Board Chairman should sign three copies of the subcontract, two
of which should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit for
submission to the University of California.
