HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07251989 - S.2 To: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FROM: Supervisor Tom Torlakson Contra (Costa DATE: July 25, 1989 County SUBJECT: AMENDMENT TO RESIDENTIAL ZONING ORDINANCE SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDED ACTION: Refer to the Community Development Department and the County Planning Commission to consider an amendment to the residential zoning ordinance to restrict the size and height of accessory buildings in residential areas . BACKGROUND INFORMATION: A situation was recently called to my attention where a property owner was allowed to build a large accessory building on his property. The residents neighboring this property are upset about the impacts on their property and their views . It appears, however, this is allowed under the current zoning ordinance. The ordinance should be amended to restrict the size and height of accessory buildings . A suggested threshold for triggering a requirement for a land use permit should be--1,000 square feet or greater in size and 20 feet or higher in height.
