Costa xA, County DATE: July 25, 1989 �OrT CO X� SUBJECT: Approving Recommendation for County-wide Pay Equity Study Methodology SPECIFIC REQUEST(S)OR RECOMMENDATION(S)&BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION I . RECOMMENDED ACTION A. APPROVE recommendation of the Director of Personnel and Pay Equity Steering Committee to use the Point Plan Methodology for conducting the County Pay Equity Study. B. AUTHORIZE the Director of Personnel to proceed with the County-wide study. II . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND A. In 1987 the County agreed to conduct a comprehensive pay equity study. A Task Force was subsequently established to review and select a pay equity study method. Several meetings were held in which two -methods were reviewed and considered -- Decision Band and Point Factor. After a comprehensive review, the Task Force decided that a pilot study should be conducted before the final determination on which method to use was made. Fifty-five management and represented classes were selected for the study and a Steering Committee was established. The pilot study has been concluded and the Steering Committee and Director of Personnel are now recommending the use of a point factor plan for the County-wide study.
