TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
FROM: Contra
Supervisor Tom Torlakson Costa
DATE: Introduced September 20, 1988, County
for Board Action September 27, 1988
SUBJECT:
NEED FOR TWO ADDITIONAL JUDGESHIPS FOR THE
DELTA MUNICIPAL COURT
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Direct the County Administrator, the
County Municipal Court Administrator and the County Justice System
Executive Council to initiate legislative action to secure two
additional judgeships for the Delta Municipal Court and identify the
additional staffing needs in other county departments that would be
associated with the additional judgeships.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: I met recently with Judge Gerald
Belleci, Pittsburg Councilman Joe Canciamilla, County Municipal Court
Administrator Roy Chiesa, Delta Municipal Court. Administrator Nancy
Rampi, county representatives and other interested persons to discuss
grave concerns about the workload in the Delta Municipal Court.
Although it is recognized that it will take a considerable amount of
time to secure these additional judgements, there is a critical need
now for at least one additional judgeship. And, by the time both
positions are secured, it is expected that both will be critically
needed.
