III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND On June 3, 1986, the Board of Supervisors authorized a pre- application in the amount of $7,020,000 to the Federal Aviation Administration for grants for the new east county airport. This is a part of that project. Under this project, it is anticipated that we will acquire eight parcels amounting to approximately 844 acres of the total fee acquisition acreage of 1268 acres . Phase II of the acquisition project will begin by approximately January 1989 . All remaining land and land-use easements will be acquired in Phase II and is expected to be complete by August 1989 . It is anticipated that we will begin construction on the new portion of the airport in the Spring of 1990. In the interim, the County will operate the existing Byron Airpark as it currently exists . We anticipate only minimal improvements to the existing facilities to maintain them in a safe manner until such time as the new portion of the airport is developed.
