RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Accept report that the Building Inspection Department is enforcing State of
California requirements for low flush water closets.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
The Building Inspection Department has been enforcing this State requirement
for-over five years.

Running Water Required
` Sec.5-1001.
(a) Each plumbing fixture shall be provided with an adequate supply of hot and/or
cold potable running water piped thereto in an approved manner,so arranged
as to flush and keep it in a clean and sanitary condition without danger of
backflow or cross-connection. Water closets and urinals shall be flushed by
means of an approved tank or fiushometer valve. Faucets and diverters shall
be connected to the water distribution system so that hot water corresponds to
the left side of the fittings.
Water closets for residential buildings or structures shall use a maurimum'of 3ya
gallons of water per flush as approved by the Department of Housing and
Community Development.
FACEPITON NO. 1: For limite"ensity owner-built rural dwellings,potable
water shall be available to the dwelling site,although such water need not be
pressurized. Where water is not piped from a well, spring,cistern, or other
source, there shall be a minimum reserve of SO gallons of potable water
available..Where water delivery is pressurized, piping shall be installed in
accordance with the provisions of this chapter.
