HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08301988 - 1.14 ORDINANCE NO. 88-70 (Lighted Residential House Numbers) The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors ordains as follows (omitting the parenthetical footnotes from the official text of the enacted or amended provisions of the County Ordinance Code) : SECTION I . SUMMARY. This ordinance amends Title 7 of the Ordinance Code by supplementing the 1985 Edition of the Uniform Building Code, as modified as the County's Ordinance Code. In particular, the Uniform Building Code is supplemented in the unincorporated area of the County by requiring lighted address numbers for new residential dwelling units . rSECTION II . Section 74-3.505 is added. to the County Ordinance Code to read as follows: 74-3 . 503 UBC Sec. 513, Premises Identification. Section 513 is amended by adding subsection (b) , to read: Premises Identification. Sec. 513 . (a) General. Approved numbers or addresses shall be provided for all new buildings in such a position as to be plainly visible and legible from the street or road fronting the property. (b) Residential Illumination. 1 . In addition to (a) , every new residential dwelling unit building shall be equipped with a lighted (illuminated) house number or address plainly visible and legible from the street or road fronting the property. 2 . As appropriate, the planning agency or building inspection director may grant exceptions to this subsection (b) 's requirements when satisfied that the application of its requirements would impose an unreasonable hardship and expense for the owner and/or applicant due to special circumstances applicable to the involved new building(s) because of location, topography, or surroundings. (Ord. 88-7o §2 . ) SECTION III . EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance becomes effective 30 days after passage, and within 15 days of passage shall be published once with the names of the supervisors voting for and against it in the Contra Costa Times, a newspaper published in this County. PASSED and ADOPTED on August 30, 1988 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Powers, Fanden, Torlakson. NOES: None. ABSENT: Supervisors McPeak and Schroder. ABSTAIN: None.
