Submission of Funding Application #29-265-16 to the State Department of Health Services for Continuation, of the Maternal and Child Health and Perinatal Improvement Program SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND Alm JUSTIFICATION I_. RECOMMENDED ACTION : f Approve and authorize the Chairman to execute on behalfof the County, Funding Application 429-265-16 for submission to the State Department of Health Services in the amount of $92 , 500 for• the period July 1 , 1988 - June 30 , 1989 for continuation of the ' Maternal and Child Health and Perinatal Improvement Program. II . FINANCIAL IMPACT : Approval of this agreement by the State will result in $92 , 500 of State funding for this program, reflecting no change from the FY 1987-88 State funding amount . Sources of funding are as follows : State Ongoing Allocation $ 92 , 500 . County In-Kind 45716 TOTAL PROGRAM $138 ,216 , III . REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS/BACKGROUND : On September 1 , 1987 , the Board approved Standard Agreement #29-265-15 with the State Department of Health Services for con- tinuation of the Maternal and Child Health Coordination Project during FY 1987-88. Funding Application 429-256-16 requests State funding for continuation of the program during FY 1988-89 . This program coordinates services to women and children , par- ticularly in the areas of perinatal services to reduce low birth: weight and infant mortality. Project goals include: ( 1 ) imple- mentating comprehensive perinatal services in County prenatal clinics , (2) encouraging private physicians ..to participate in this program to improve prenatal care for pregnant women, ( 3) analyzing perinatal vital statistics data for planning and resource allocation purposes , and (4) fostering County/community program and policy development activities in such. subject areas _ as addressing the needs of chemically dependent pregnant women and preventing AIDS during the perinatal period. In order to meet the State ' s deadline for submission, draft copies of the application have already been forwarded to the State , but subject to Board approval . The Board Chairman shoul:.d sign two copies of the application , one of which should be returned to the Contracts and Grants Unit , along with six certified copies of the Board Order , for submission to the State Department of Health Services .
