BACKGROUND/REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION:
Earlier this year, the Board of Supervisors requested the County
Administrator and the County Personnel Director, in conjunction with Boards
of Fire Commissioners, to develop an evaluation procedure for volunteer
fire district chiefs. The recommended procedures were developed by County
staff and submitted to the Boards of Fire Commissioners for review and
comment.
The evaluation procedure requires the Chief and Commissioners to develop
annual goals and objectives for the district, which are reviewed and
approved by the County Administrator. The annual evaluation of the Chief
will be based on a review of the Chief ' s performance in meeting the annual
goals and objectives of the district. The recommended procedure also
provides suggested criteria to be used in evaluating the general
performance of the Chief.
