SUBJECT: West County Justice Center
Extra Services by the Architect: Furnishings and Signage
Specific Request(s) or Recommendations(s) & Background & Justification
RECOMMENDATION
APPROVE extra professional services required to select, specify and order
furnishings, signage and equipment for the West County Justice Center
project and AUTHORIZE the County Administrator or his designee to direct
the project architect, Dworsky/Design Partnership, to provide these
services as an extra service in accordance with the terms and conditions of
their agreement for Architectural Services.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The cost for these professional services shall be based on actual cost not
to exceed $154, 274 for furnishings and equipment related services and
$77 ,566 for signage related services, for a total not-to-exceed limit of
$231, 840. Project funds are available for these additional services.
REASONS FOR RECONIIMENIDATION/BACKGROUND
The County' s Agreement for Architectural Services with Dworsky/Design
Partnership did not include services relating to the selection or
procurement of loose or unattached _ furniture,, equipment and furnishings or
signage, which were not included in the construction contract. These
services were anticipated, however, and are permitted as extra services by
the Architect. According to the contract, these services, insofar as they
cause the Architect extra expense, can be authorized by the County
Administrator or his designated representative. Because of the amount of
the the payment limit for these extra services, the Board of Supervisors
is being asked to approve and authorize these extra services.
The Architect' s proposal was reviewed and revised following negotiation
with the County' s Project Manager. Payment to the Architect will be based
on actual work performed, with such effort to be carefully monitored.
Having these services provided by the Architect assures full coordination
with the work currently under construction and full accountability with a
single consultant. The Architect is also fully familiar with all aspects
of the project and design intent, thus reducing pote ial for costly
errors or time delays.
