DATE ' Naming the New Field Operations Building Vt.JJ*
SUBJECT: after the Late Captain Gary Ford
SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATIONS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Approve the request of the Sheriff-Coroner that the new
Field Operations Building be named in memory of the late
Captain Gary Ford.
2. Authorize the County Administrator and Sheriff-Coroner to
design an appropriate plaque for the new Field Operations
Building and plan an appropriate dedication ceremony for the
building when completed.
3 . Remove this item as a referral to our Committee.
BACKGROUND:
On July 26, 1988, the Board of Supervisors referred to our
Committee a request from the Sheriff-Coroner that the new Field
Operations Building currently under construction be named for the
late Captain Gary Ford.
On August 8, 1988, our Committee met with Sheriff Rainey and
Assistant Sheriff Warren Rupf. Sheriff Rainey noted the many
contributions to the Sheriff ' s Office by Captain Ford and the
fact that Captain Ford was looked up to as a role model by many
of the Deputies in the Department. In addition, Captain Ford was
the Department' s Project Coordinator for the new Field Operations
Building and spent hundreds of hours bringing together all of the
parties involved in hammering out agreements concerning space
allocation and design and overseeing the myriad tasks associated
with such a large project.
Our Committee agrees with the Sheriff that it would be
appropriate to remember Captain Ford by naming the new Field
Operations Building after him and we have, therefore, made the
above recommendations.
